Scotland’s best hotel revealed in prestigious list – see the UK’s top 100

With more of us than ever taking breaks around Britain, where we stay has become increasingly important.

This week, The Sunday Times has revealed its definitive list of the 100 best places to stay spread throughout the country, with nine hotels around Scotland making their mark on the prestigious list.

Taybank in Highland Perthshire is the best place to stay in Scotland, according to The Sunday Times.

Based on the banks of the Tay in the village of Dunkeld, the owner Fraser Potter used to drink at The Taybank as a teen and has now transformed the former pub into a buzzing new boutique hotel.

Jeremy Lazell, travel editor Scotland for The Times and The Sunday Times, said: “Take one trad music bar in Highland Perthshire’s prettiest town, add a can-do new owner, and what you get is this buzzing five-bedroom Dunkeld hotel, right on the banks of the Tay.

“Cracking food, riverfront beer garden and Scandi-chic makeover – it’s exactly the hotel this exceptional location deserves.”

Loch Lomond’s Cameron House, which reopened last month after a fire ripped through the main building in 2017 won the coveted prize for Best Family Hotel in the national awards.

The Sunday Times Best Places to Stay guide called it ‘a grand Loch Lomond mansion that’s a treat for couples and families’.

It is described as a 1830s Scots baronial mansion on the banks of Loch Lomond and ‘a cracking high-end resort for families with deep pockets’.

The full guide is split into eight regions: London, Southeast, Southwest, Central, East, North, Wales and Scotland and there are also winners in eight different categories; Budget, B&B, Foodie, Family, Coastal, Pub, Country and Romantic.

The guide focuses on hotels with the essentials of comfort, great service and value, as well as personality and warmth.
